David Woodward

Dave is seen here at the Baipip exhibition at the Primary school. He was the son of Eddie and Nellie Woodward who manufactured and sold ice cream from Fidling farm under the name ‘It’s Danny’s’. Dave was the last person to manufacture the famous ice cream in the 1990s.

Bill and Jean Ennis

Bill and Jean were the first and only steward and stewardess of Brierley Ex Servicemen’s club. They are now living in retirement on the Grange estate (September 2005).

Dorothy Firth – Belle Dyson 

circa 1960s

Mrs Belle Dyson delivering mail to Mrs Dorothy Firth at number 4 Church Drive. Mrs Dyson started delivering the post in Brierley as a relief in 1959. She went full time in the early 1960s while 1976. She then worked behind the counter until she retired in 1987. Both Mrs Dyson and Mrs Firth now live on Grange Road (December 2005).

Mrs Mary Dyson with eldest son Alec at his christening.

Alec is now 85 years old and living on the Grange estate with his wife Belle (January 2006). They have two sons, Raymond and Keith.

Norman Dyson

Norman won the Military Medal Norman’s son is Alec Dyson who is 86 years old and living on the Grange estate with his wife Belle (January 2006). They have two sons, Raymond and Keith.

This photograph was taken in the backs of Hodroyd Cottages (Pit Row). Fred is seen here with his daughter Winifred. He was an overman at Brierley Colliery. Winifred later became Mrs Harold Goulding and she is now living on the Grange estate (January 2006).

James who was known as Jimmy was killed in the 1914-18 war and his name can be seen on the cenotaph at St Paul’s Church.
