Dennis Turner with his dog Prince

Dennis lived at 17 Hilltop with his brother and sister Nora and Teddy. In 1999 Dennis was 76 years young and living in Scawsby Doncaster. This photograph was taken down Frickley Bridge Lane.

Gabriel Price MP

Gabriel was the Member of Parliament for the Hemsworth Parliamentary Division, which included South Hiendley, Brierley and Shafton. He died mysteriously and his body was found in the River Thames. The MP to succeed him was Mr Griffiths.

Mr and Mrs Farmer (Ruth nee Breedon)

Ruth was the sister to the famous footballer Johnny Breedon who played for Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley (see photograph people 41). In 2002 Ruth and her husband were living in South Kirkby.

Bessie Woodward corner shop

At this time, Bessie worked for Mr and Mrs Alan Greenwell. Other known proprietors have been, Crossland’s, Woodward’s, Karen’s and Netty’s. When the Crossland's tenanted the property, the upstairs room at one time was used as meeting place for the Spiritualists before the Spiritualist Church was built.

Private Gerald Woodward

In later years Gerald worked for his brother Eddie Woodward hawking ice cream. His wife Bessie worked in the corner shop at the junction of Church Street and Church Drive (converted back to house in 1998 by Bob Grainger who was also the manager of the Three Horse Shoes at that time).

Jackie Morley (later Little)

In the 1960s Jackie worked for Bert and Elsie Blackshaw at the Three Horse Shoes as a barmaid. She now lives on Grange Road and works as a cleaner at Brierley Hall (May 2005).
