Pit Boots

The man that wore these pit boots to me was seven feet tall

Although he was small in stature  he had seen it all

Mates crushed on the face tearful wives and hungry kids

Shunted from pit to pit as they put on the lids

They now have pop stars for heroes sportsmen and the like

But in my minds eye all I see is the little fella on his bike

He did not play for United a singing lesson he never had

But I will always love him because he was my dad

God bless (Ernest)
