St Paul’s C of E School Mrs Horton’s class

The information on this photograph was provided by Christine Johnson (nee Beard) who lived at 51 Park View, and attended the school from 1949 to 1955. Christine moved with her husband John to Perth Western Australia. John taught at Felkirk and Cudworth School. Christine sister Marlene still lives in Brierley and is married to Terry Haynes of the St John Ambulance fame.

St Paul’s C of E School

The headmaster Mr William Sharp can be seen on the right of the picture. He was headmaster from 1903 till 1931. He lived in the house next to the church until well into the 1930s. The small boy standing next to him is Hubert ? Wroe who was deaf and dumb. On the back row second left is Beatie Kenyon who went on to marry Eddie Thorpe. Their son Vernon married Annie Mathers. Annie Watson is the girl 6th from the left and her sister Jessie can be seen on the front row of girls standing. She is the fourth girl from the left. The first girl on the left is Ida Fox whose family owned Violet Farm. Her daughter Mrs Swinbank who ran the petrol station at the top of Brierley Hill provided the information to this photograph that was donated by Pam Fewster

Mr Hambleton has now retired and lives in South Hiendley. Mrs Peacock retired and living on Cliff Lane Brierley. Mrs Fox has sadly passed away and Mrs Horton retired and living in Minsthorpe. Mrs Thorpe now retired and living in Mackay Crescent Brierley
