Father Christmas

Brierley Town council will assist Father Christmas as he tours the streets of Brierley and Grimethorpe on 22 and 23 December handing out sweets to the children

Torchlight Carnival

The Torchlight Carnival procession, which was to take place on 1 December, has been cancelled. Instead the Town council will hold an Easter parade in March.

 

Social Club

There is a quiz night every Monday in the Social Club starting at 9.30pm. The winners last week were Neil and Ross Bower. Members also enjoyed refreshments. On 30 November there will be a curry and race night starting at 8pm. Names are now being taken for the Christmas handicaps.

 

Grange House

At the Grange House social evenings last week, Ann Whitehead won the raffle on Monday while Rita Sayers won on Thursday. Audrey Marsh won on Friday.

 

Three Horse Shoes
There is a quiz night at the Three Horse Shoes on a Thursday at 9.30pm and on Sunday at 8pm there is a music, conundrum and general knowledge quiz.

 

Women’s Fellowship

The Fellowship meeting takes place on a Monday at 2pm at the Methodist Church. The speaker last week was Mrs Catherine Dodd.

 

Ladies Recreation

The Ladies from the Methodist Church hold a recreation evening every Tuesday at 7.30pm.

 

Pop In

The next Pop in morning at the Methodist church will take place on Thursday from 9.15 am till 11.15. Everyone is invited to pop in for tea, coffee and biscuits and a chat. Proceeds are towards church funds.

 

Methodist Church

Mrs H Bishop will take the service on Sunday morning at 10.15am while Deacon J Thomas will take the evening service at 6. The welcoming steward will be Pearl in the morning and Norma in the evening. Hilda will provide this weeks flower.

Friends of St Paul’s

The Friends of St Paul’s will hold a Christmas Fair on Saturday 1 December when a Christmas draw for £500 worth of prizes will be held. There will also be stalls selling gifts, cards, jewellery and food.

 

Line Dancing

Line Dancing will take place every Monday and Friday in the Methodist Church Hall at 7pm. Entry is £2.50.

 

Town Council meeting

The next meeting of Brierley Town council will take place on Tuesday at 7pm in Grimethorpe welfare hall.

 

Brierley Cubs FC

In the Sunday Millennium league, the under 10s will play at home to Ward Green kicking of at 11am. Training sessions are held on a Thursday evening from 5pm till 6 on the Stute rugby ground.

 

Spiritualist Church

There will be Healing in the Sanctuary on Friday from 6pm till 6.45 followed at 7pm, with an Open circle. Val Atkins from Flockton will take the service on Sunday evening starting at 6. Refreshments will be served afterwards. On Wednesday 5 December there will be a clairvoyance special and Christmas buffet. Julie Winfield will lead the service and tickets from the church are £3.50. The church will close on 17 December and reopen on Friday 4 January at 6pm. The committee would like to thank all who have supported the church over the last year.

 

St Paul’s

There will be a mass on Friday at 3pm and on Sunday a mass with hymns at 9.30am. On Monday there will be amass at 10am. Parish office for Baptism & Weddings are on Friday Evening at St Luke's Vicarage, Grimethorpe between 6.30pm and 7.15pm. Contact Father Peter Needham on 01226 717561.

 

Boys Brigade

Both the Junior Boys and Company Section meetings take place on Wednesday night in the Methodist Church Hall. The 7 to 11 year olds meeting will take place from 6.30pm till 8pm and the older boys will meet from 7pm till 9. Edwin and Elizabeth Hambleton lead the boys. Last week the boys enjoyed an evening of Food & Fun.
