A recent visitor to Brierley was Felix Preval from Tawa near Wellington New Zealand. Before coming to Brierley Felix had toured significant parts of Asia and Europe but was keen to check out his family history linked to Brierley. His great grandparents James and Ada Kerr lived at number 24 Hodroyd Cottages with their two sons Jack and Jim and three daughters Sadie, Mabel and Olive. Sadie who moved to live in Leeds was Felix’s great grandmother whilst his great aunts now Mabel Nicoll and Olive Radford  continued to live in Brierley on Park Avenue and Regina Crescent respectively. Both the sons died early; Jack following illness and Jim from injuries received in a mining explosion at Brierley Colliery in the late 1930’s. Jim’s son another Jim now lives in Perth  Western Australia following service in the British and Australian armies. Felix hopes to catch up with Jim and his family in Perth on a future trip. Felix was accompanied on his visit to Brierley by Mabel’s son  David  Nicoll who now lives in Pogmoor Barnsley.
