May 6th is polling day not only for the General Election, but also for the vital local elections too. It's really important that people exercise their right to vote, and I hope that people in Brierley village cast their vote - whether by postal vote or at the polling station on the day itself.

I have been out and about campaigning for Labour with Dorothy Higginbottom, the excellent local councillor for the North East ward, which includes Brierley, Great Houghton, Grimethorpe and Shafton. Dorothy works hard all year round for local people.

This election is critical for the people of Barnsley. We all remember the devastation caused to this area by the Tories. I was at Grange House last week, meeting members of the Brierley community. I have been talking to local people about the improvements we've seen in the area, plus the help we've introduced for pensioners and for hard-working families. That's been down to a Labour Government working side-by-side with a really good Labour Council in Barnsley.  We need both after May 6th, especially as we still have much more work to do to improve life for local people.

To find out more about me and Labour's record and ideas, you can go to

I look forward to hearing what you have to say.

Best wishes

Michael Dugher - Labour Party Candidate for Barnsley East
