14 years fundraising finally pays off

After 14 years of fundraising the improvements to Brierley Methodist Church have finally taken part. There is a new kitchen, worship hall and a new entrance on the site of the old car park so a dignified entry can be made for funerals.

 Member Jean Rowley said the members had managed to raise £68,000.

Three Horse Shoes

A quiz night is held every Thursday starting at 9pm. The winner last week was Mick Pointon. Terry Winter won the nearest too question.

 

Spiritualist Church

There will be healing in the sanctuary tomorrow night from 6pm till 6.45pm followed by an open circle. There will be a demonstration of mediumship on Sunday at 6pm that will be taken by Jen Pearson and June Jardin both from Rotherham.  Refreshments will be served after both services.

 

Burntwood Court

There will be a Nite Owl reunion on Saturday 31 March.

 

Pop in

The next meeting of the pop in club will be on Thursday at 9.30am where residents are invited to pop in for refreshments and a chat. The hostess this week will be Jean Rowley.

 

Ladies Club

The ladies club meet every second Wednesday in the Methodist Church Hall: The ladies enjoy regular outings, speaker’s games and much more. . Last week the ladies were entertained with a speaker from the South Yorkshire fire brigade. They will next meet on the 11 April at 2pm. Bollinbroke House

Father Peter Needham visits the home every second Wednesday in the month.

 

Playmates

Meet in the welfare park Monday to Friday from 9am to 12 noon term time only. Ages three and to five, contact Vicky Ray on 07738055344.

 

Line Dancing

Line dancing is every Friday at 6.30pm in the Methodist Church Hall.

 

Amateur Radio

Members of the South Yorkshire Repeater Group amateur radio club will meet in the Three Horse Shoes every third Thursday in the month at 8pm: For further details contact Ernest Bailey on 07984 191873

 

Women’s Fellowship

The women’s fellowship meets every second Monday in the month at 2pm. There next meeting will be will be on 12 April where they will enjoy readings.

 

 

Quiz with the Wiz

The top four places in this weeks quiz with the wiz went to Rachel Ward, Steve Haigh, Terri Green and Jamie Norbury. The top ten positions after six weeks are Steve Haigh, Terrie Green, Jodie Taylor, Rachel Ward, Jamie Norbury, Jon McCauley, Malcolm Milburn, Tony Glew, Davina Mcloud, and Ashley Jones. The competition is run over 10 weeks every Tuesday at 8pm and it is hoped to have a local charity presentation night in the Three Horse Shoes once the 10 weeks is completed. Slimming World

Members of the Slimming World meet every Monday at 5.30pm and 7.30pm in the Methodist Church Hall: Half stone award went to Jayne Saxon and Sophia Booth. One stone award went to Vicky Ray and one and a half stone award went to Ken Whyman. Janet Whyman received her club 10 award. The group lost a total of 61lbs between them.

 

Methodist Church

This Sunday’s service will be a local arrangement. The welcoming steward will be Edwin Hambleton and Bob Jackie and the church will provide the flowers. There will be as big sing at Staincross in the evening at 6pm. On Thursday there will be a Kleeneze cookery demonstration at 10am and the proceeds will be for the Building fund. There is a karate club on Wednesday and Thursday at 7pm. The Cheerleaders meet on a Tuesday from 5pm till 7. A bible study class is held on a Thursday at 7pm in the medical centre on Church Drive.

 

Burntwood Care Home

To celebrate mother’s day on Sunday Paul Somers will entertain the residents. There is a coffee morning every Wednesday from 10.30am till 12 noon where everyone is invited to play bingo and enjoy craft making. A sing-along is also enjoyed with Father Peter. Birthday greetings go out this month to Alice Stacey, Doug Rowe, Flo Cook and Doreen Rudkin.

 

Free Spirits

Members of the Free Spirits cheerleaders meet in the Methodist church hall every Tuesday at 5pm till 7pm. They will take part in a competition at Havecroft on the weekend 31 March and 1 April. Contact Sarah on 07958369203.
