Methodist Church

The Sunday morning service at 10.15am will be taken by Mr Edwin Hambleton. The welcoming steward will be Edwin while Andrea, Nigel and Amber will provide the flowers. There is a karate club on Monday at 7pm and the majorettes meet on Thursday and Friday at 4.30pm. There will be a bible study in the medical centre on Church Street on Thursday at 7pm. The weekend 19 and 20 September will be a Harvest Festival weekend which will include on the Saturday a concert and Harvest supper. The Sunday morning service will be a family and parade service taken by Mrs R Miles.

 

Village club

There is a quiz night every Monday starting at 9pm. The winner last week was Volvo Phil

 

Council surgery

Councillor Dorothy Higginbottom will hold a council surgery in Grange House on Wednesday between 10 and 11am.

 

Boys Brigade

The boys will start back on Wednesday when both the Junior Boys and Company Section meetings will take place in the Methodist Church Hall. The 7 to 11 year olds meeting will take place from 6.30pm till 8pm and the older boys will meet from 7pm till 9. Edwin and Elizabeth Hambleton lead the boys. The Boys Brigade will lead the family and parade service on 20 September at 10.15am.

 

Spiritualist Church

There will be Healing in the church by approved healers tonight from 6 till 6.45pm followed at 7pm with an Open circle. There will be a demonstration of mediumship by Norrie Mills from Bradford on Sunday from 6pm till 7.15pm. The rest of the demonstrators for September will be, David Pinch from Doncaster and Margaret Pearson from Rotherham.

Pop In

The next meeting of the Pop in club that is held at the Methodist church Hall will be on Thursday from 9.15am till 11am. Everyone is invited to pop in for tea, coffee, biscuits and a chat. Proceeds will be towards Church funds

 

Three Horse Shoes

There is a quiz night at the Three Horse Shoes on a Thursday at 9.30pm and on Sunday at 8pm there is a music, conundrum and general knowledge quiz. On Sunday Sharks table won the quiz. Sarah and Mel won the conundrum. The head to head was not won and will be for £330 next week. On Thursday, the Dead Heads won the quiz and the nearest too question. Dan, Libby and buddies won the bottle of wine. There will be a darts knockout competition starting on Monday at 8pm.

 

Town Council

There will be a special meeting of the Town council on Monday 21 September at 6pm in the council chambers, Grimethorpe.

 

Brierley Cubs FC

The under twelve's will kick of their new season in the Charles Rice Sunday league with a home game against Crofton Juniors kicking of at 12 noon.

 

Grange House

At the Friday night social evening Margaret Burton won the raffle while Mary Winham claimed Monday’s prize. Audrey Marsh won on Thursday. The next trip organised by the warden Linda Millburn is on the 14 October to Skipton, leaving Grange House at 11am and returning at approx 4pm calling at the Wetherby Whaler at Durker for a fish and chip supper returning to Grange House at approx 8pm. Pool

In their final match in the Smithies Wednesday night pool league the village club team played away to the Polish club and lost 7-0. Doubles and individual will now be played at various venues.
