Three Horse Shoes

There is a quiz night at the Three Horse Shoes on a Thursday at 9.30pm and on Sunday at 8pm there is a music, conundrum and general knowledge quiz. On Thursday The Dead Heads won the quiz and Not Bothered about winning won the nearest too question. 1984 won the bottle of wine. S Talk won the quiz on Sunday while Les Parry won the conundrum. The Head to head was not won and will be for £30 next week. The manageress Jo would like to thank everyone for their well wishes during her recent stay in hospital.

 

Town Council

The next meeting of Brierley Town council will be in the Methodist Church Hall on Tuesday 25 March at 7pm. Any item for the agenda needs to be with the clerk by the 15 March.

 

Women’s Institute

The next meeting of the newly formed WI will be on Tuesday 8 April at 1.30 in the Methodist Church Hall. The ladies will then meet once a month but times may vary.

 

Pop In

The next meeting of the Pop in club that is held at the Methodist church Hall will be tomorrow ()Thursday 12 March and then on Thursday 26 March from 9.15am till 11am. Everyone is invited to pop in for tea, coffee, biscuits and a chat. Proceeds will be towards Church funds.

 

Boys Brigade

Both the Junior Boys and Company Section meetings will take place in the Methodist Church Hall on Wednesday. The 7 to 11 year olds meeting will take place from 6.30pm till 8pm and the older boys will meet from 7pm till 9. Edwin and Elizabeth Hambleton lead the boys.

 

Village club

There is a quiz night every Monday starting at 9pm. Last week the winners were Adrian Sheard and Michelle Rowney.

 

Bollinbroke House

Residents and friends were entertained to a tea party last week to celebrate the birthdays of residents Kathleen Parish and Jane Taylor.

 

Women’s Fellowship

The women’s fellowship meets in the Methodist Church every Monday at 2pm. The speaker last week was Edwin.

 

Grange House

Winners of the raffle prizes at the spring tea that was arranged by the warden Linda Milburn were Belle Dyson, Ellen Cartwright, Malcolm Millburn, Hilda Hall, Audrey Marsh, Rita Ford and Rita Sayers. At the social evening on Friday Nellie Bowering won the raffle while Violet Gash won on Monday. There is a clothing party arranged for Wednesday 24 March at 10.30am. The proceeds will be towards a trip to Bakewell that will take place on the 19 May and will be adults only. Spare tickets will be available

 

Brierley Cubs FC

In the Sunday Millennium league the under 11s played away to Mexborough Rovers and lost 2 -0. The man of the match for Brierley was Alfie Robson. On Sunday they will play at home to Mexborough Rangers with an 11am kick off.

 

Methodist Church

The Sunday service at 10.15am will be taken by Mr G Senior and the welcoming steward will be Pearl. George Titterton will provide this weeks flowers. There will be a karate class on Monday at 7pm and on Thursday and Friday the majorettes will meet at 4.30pm.

 

Spiritualist Church

On Friday at 6pm there will be Healing in the Sanctuary followed at 7 with a demonstration of mediumship that will be taken by Denise Schofield from Rotherham. On Sunday there will be a demonstration of mediumship at 6pm taken by Mary McCabe from Doncaster, Demonstrators for the rest of March will be, Joanne Huckett and David Pinch both from Doncaster.

 

Pool

In the Smithies Wednesday night pool league, the team played a double pointer match at home against Haddon Road club and lost 4-3. The winning players for Brierley were Graham Hotchins, Bernard Lucas snr and Andrew Darbyshire. The team will play New Lodge club A at home next week.
