Town Council

The next meeting will be on Tuesday 23 June at the Council chambers Grimethorpe at 6pm.

 

Pool

In the Smithies Wednesday night pool league the village club played the Rose & Crown at home and won 4-3. Winning players for Brierley were Bernard Lucas senior, Chris Rounds, Kenneth Clarke and Dale Creasey. Next week they will play away to the Pack Horse at Royston.

 

Pop In

The next meeting of the Pop in club that is held at the Methodist church Hall will be on Thursday 25 June from 9.15am till 11am. Everyone is invited to pop in for tea, coffee, biscuits and a chat. Proceeds will be towards Church funds.

 

Three Horse Shoes

There is a quiz night at the Three Horse Shoes on a Thursday at 9.30pm and on Sunday at 8pm there is a music, conundrum and general knowledge quiz. The winners of the quiz on Sunday were Sharks Table with God Squad claiming the second prize. Sharks table also won the won conundrum. The Head to Head was not won and will be for £140 next week. On Thursday G Fab won the quiz while No Chance won the nearest too question. Marc and Andrea won the bottle of wine. Bands will start of Friday night at 9pm with Joe Lloyd providing the entertainment this week

 

Grange House

The winner of the social evening raffle on Monday was Pam Fewster while Rita Sayers won on Thursday. Bet Ryalls won on Friday. Linda Millburn the warden has arranged a trip to Southport on 21 July for the residents. For further details on the trip, telephone Linda on 01226 711221.

 

 Methodist Church

The Sunday morning service at 10.15am will be taken by Mrs R Marsden. The welcoming steward will be Jean while Lee & Magdi will provide the flowers. There is a karate club on Monday at 7pm and the majorettes meet on Thursday and Friday at 4.30pm. There will be a bible study in the medical centre on Church Street on Thursday at 7pm. Forthcoming events include Saturday 27 June, Talent showcase for young musicians, volunteers required are required please see Edwin. On Saturday 11 July the Church will hold its annual Garden party that will be opened by Mr and Mrs Wayne Ashton from Shafton.

 

Women’s Institute

The next meeting of the WI will be on Wednesday 12 July in the Methodist Church Hall. The ladies will meet once a month but times and dates may vary.

 

Spiritualist Church

There will be Healing in the church by approved healers tonight from 6 till 6.45pm followed at 7 with an Open circle. On Sunday at 6pm till 7.15 there will be a demonstration of mediumship taken by Michael Fern from Doncaster. Demonstrators for the rest of June will be Gill Newton from Crofton and Dinah Burke from Wath upon Dearth. Refreshments will be served after each service. There will be a clairvoyance fair open day on 27 June starting at 11am while 4pm. There will be private readings, Raike, Gemstone jewellery and much more.

 

Brierley Cubs FC

At a tournament at Worsborough Common last weekend, the under 11s beat Worsborough Common juniors 2-0 in the final to win the tournament. The goals scorers for Brierley were Liam Snowball and Michael Shaw. The under 9s were runners up in their section. All the Brierley teams will play in a further tournament at Royston on 20 July.

 

Boys Brigade

Both the Junior Boys and Company Section meetings will take place in the Methodist Church Hall on Wednesday. The 7 to 11 year olds meeting will take place from 6.30pm till 8pm and the older boys will meet from 7pm till 9. Edwin and Elizabeth Hambleton lead the boys.

 

Village club

There is a quiz night every Monday starting at 9pm. Last week Volvo Phil beat Malc Millburn in a tie break. In a games night replay Sid beat Alan Beavers 4-1 at snooker.

 

Garden scheme

Brierley Town council are offering a community gardener scheme, to offer assistance to Brierley and Grimethorpe residents who are unable to maintain their own gardens due to poor health or age. If you feel that you are unable to look after your garden or know someone who would benefit from the scheme, please contact Jan or Sarah on 01226 714681. The Town council will also begin its judging of residents gardens during the week commencing 13 July. Should you wish your garden to be included, contact any councillor or again telephone Jan or Sarah.

 

Women’s Fellowship

The women’s fellowship meets in the Methodist Church every Monday at 2pm. Last week the speaker was Edwin.
