Three Horse Shoes

There is a quiz night at the Three Horse Shoes on a Thursday at 9.30pm and on Sunday at 8pm there is a music, conundrum and general knowledge quiz. On Sunday Shy T won both the conundrum and the quiz. The Head to Head was not won and will be for £180 next week. On Thursday The Dead Heads won the quiz while G Fab won the nearest too question. Tom, Clair and Mick won the bottle of wine. On Friday there will be a talent Karaoke contest with the winner going through to a grand final that will take place at Christmas. The evening will be supported by a disco.

 

Methodist Church

The Sunday morning service at 10.15am will be a Family and Parade service that will be taken by Mr Eddie Hamilton. The welcoming steward will be Pearl while George Titterton will provide the flowers. The evening service at 6 will be a Sacrament service taken by the Reverend  B Russell. There is a karate club on Monday at 7pm and the majorettes meet on Thursday and Friday at 4.30pm. There will be a bible study in the medical centre on Church Street on Thursday at 7pm. Next Saturday the Church will hold its annual Garden party that will be opened at 3pm by Mr and Mrs Wayne Ashton from Shafton.

 

Spiritualist Church

There will be Healing in the church by approved healers tonight from 6 till 6.45pm followed at 7.30pm till 8.30pm with a demonstration of mediumship that will be taken by Ann Anderson from Redford. On Sunday at 6pm till 7.15 there will be a further demonstration of mediumship taken by Gordon Cooke from Ilkley. Refreshments will be served after each service. The rest of the demonstrators for July will be Jean Crilly from Chesterfield, David Sinclair from Sheffield and Karan Rainey from South Kirkby. There will be a graphology evening which is the art of reading handwriting by Jackie Jennings on Wednesday 22 July from 7.15pm till 8.15pm.

 

Brierley Cubs FC

At a recent tournament at Crofton the under 7s, 11s and 12s all reached the semi finals. The under 9s 11s and 12s will play in a further tournament at Oakwell this weekend.

 

Pool

In the Smithies Wednesday night pool league the village club played away to the Pack Horse from Roystone and lost 4-3. Winning players for Brierley were Steven Whaling, Bernard Lucas snr and John Beasley. Next week they will play away to the Black Bull from Stairfoot.

 

Pop In

The next meeting of the Pop in club that is held at the Methodist church Hall will be on Thursday from 9.15am till 11am. Everyone is invited to pop in for tea, coffee, biscuits and a chat. Proceeds will be towards Church funds.

 

Village club

There is a quiz night every Monday starting at 9pm. The winner last week was Malcolm Evans.

 

Women’s Institute

The next meeting of the WI will be on Wednesday in the Methodist Church Hall. The ladies will meet once a month but times and dates may vary.

 

Grange House

At the social evening on Thursday Doreen Bradbury won the raffle while Bet Ryalls won on Friday. Rita Sayers claimed Monday’s prize. The trip to Southport that has been arranged by Linda Millburn the warden on 21 July is now fully booked.

 

Women’s Fellowship

The women’s fellowship meets in the Methodist Church every Monday at 2pm.
