Methodist Church

The Sunday morning service at 10.15am will be taken by Mrs H Bellamy. The welcoming steward will be Pearl while Norms will provide the flowers. There is a karate club on Monday at 7pm and the majorettes meet on Thursday and Friday at 4.30pm. There will be a bible study in the medical centre on Church Street on Thursday at 7pm. On Thursday 13 August there will be an open day at the church from 10.30am till 2pm and will include a bring & buy stall, cake stall and refreshments. All are welcome.

 

Village club

There is a quiz night every Monday starting at 9pm. The winner last week was Volvo Phil.

 

Women’s Institute

The next meeting of the WI will be on Wednesday 12 August in the Methodist Church Hall. The ladies will meet once a month but times and dates may vary.

 

Three Horse Shoes

There is a quiz night at the Three Horse Shoes on a Thursday at 9.30pm and on Sunday at 8pm there is a music, conundrum and general knowledge quiz. On Sunday Sharks table won the quiz while Andy & Joe came second and won the conundrum. The Head to Head was not won and will be for £250 next week. On Thursday Eric’s team won the quiz while Julie’s lot won the nearest too question. G Fab won the bottle of wine. On the 19 August there will be a charity gourmet night with tickets priced at £24.95.

 

Women’s Fellowship

The women’s fellowship meets in the Methodist Church every Monday at 2pm. The speaker last week was Des Haynes.

 

Bollingbroke House

Father Peter Needham will visit the home every second Wednesday of the month at 3pm starting on 12 August.

 

Pool

In the Smithies Wednesday night pool league the village club played AWAY AT THE Wharncliffe Arms and won 5-2. The winning players for Brierley were John Beasley, Kenneth Clarke, Ben Johnson, Mark Woolands and Adrian Kenneth Sheard. Next week they will play away to Carlton Village club.

 

Spiritualist Church

There will be Healing in the church by approved healers tonight from 6 till 6.45pm followed at 7pm with an open circle. On Sunday at 6pm till 7.15 there will be a demonstration of mediumship taken by Denise Schofield from Rotherham. Refreshments will be served after each service. The demonstrators for August will be Pat Canpbell from Sheffield, Jackie Jennings from South Kirkby, Sheila Chalkley from Roystone, and Eddie Peace from Bradford. The church will be closed on Sunday 30 August for the bank holiday.

 

Pop In

The next meeting of the Pop in club that is held at the Methodist church Hall will be on Thursday from 9.15am till 11am. Everyone is invited to pop in for tea, coffee, biscuits and a chat. Proceeds will be towards Church funds.

 

Grange House

At the Thursday night social evening Pam Fewster won the raffle while Audrey Marsh claimed Monday’s prize. Sue Pearson won on Monday.
