Three Horse Shoes

There is a quiz night at the Three Horse Shoes on a Thursday at 9.30pm and on Sunday at 8pm there is a music, conundrum and general knowledge quiz. On Sunday Sharks table won the quiz while Dan, Libby and mates came second and also won the conundrum. The head to head was won for £60 and will start again next week at £15. On Thursday Les Parry won the quiz while the Famous Four won a bottle of wine. The nearest too question was won by G Fab.

 

Pool

The Smithies Wednesday night pool league has started and the players from the Village club will meet the Singing Man from Shafton in their first match.

 

Women’s Fellowship

The Women’s Fellowship meets at the Methodist Church on Mondays at 2pm. The speaker last week was Mr Edwin Hambleton.

 

Brierley Cubs FC

In the Sunday Millennium league the under 11s played away to Dale Juniors and won 6-1. Scorers for Brierley were Tyler Leese who scored twice, Ryan Smith, Michel Shaw, Liam Snowball and Joey Kan-Kamboadu who was also man of the match. Next week they will play at home to Wincobanck juniors with an 11am kick off.  

 

Boys Brigade

Both the Junior Boys and Company Section meetings will take place in the Methodist Church Hall on Wednesday. The 7 to 11 year olds meeting will take place from 6.30pm till 8pm and the older boys will meet from 7pm till 9. Edwin and Elizabeth Hambleton lead the boys.

 

Grange House

At the Monday social evening Doreen Smith won the raffle while Audrey Marsh won on Thursday. Rita Sayers claimed Friday’s prize.

 

Town council

The winner of the best Christmas lights for Brierley sponsored by the Town council was Ms Julie Sabin of Norwood Drive. The next Town council meeting will be on Tuesday 27 January at 7pm in the council chambers, Grimethorpe

 

Methodist Church

The Sunday service at 10.15am will be taken by the Rev P Allen. The welcoming steward will be Edwin. Mrs Dorothy Firth will provide the flowers. The Rev Chislett McDonald will lead the evening service at 6pm. There will be a karate class on Monday at 7pm and on Thursday and Friday the majorettes will meet at 4.30pm.

 

Bollinbroke House

Winning numbers waiting to be claimed for the raffle held recently are orange 461, white 186 and white 511. Anyone with winning tickets can contact the manageress Julie on 01226 712409. The event raised £150 for the resident’s social fund.

 

Spiritualist Church

Tonight at 6 there will be Healing in the Sanctuary followed at 7 with an Open circle. On Sunday there will be a demonstration of mediumship at 6pm that will be taken by Leigh and Stephen Bacon from Barnsley. Refreshments will be served afterwards. The medium for the last week in January will be Catherine Mitchell Barnsley.

Village club

There is a quiz night every Monday starting at 9pm. The winner last week was Volvo Phil.

 

Labour Party

The Annual General and General Management meeting of the North East Ward Labour party will take place on Tuesday at 7.15pm in the council chambers Red City Welfare Park. The Annual General meeting of the Brierley Ward Labour party will take place in the village club on Sunday 25 January at 10.30am. At the conclusion of this meeting a normal branch meeting will take lace. The draw for the January centenary club will also take place. The winner in November was the Brierley British Legion. Subscriptions are now due.
