Circus school

There will be a Circus School at Lifestyles Community Centre on Tuesday and Wednesday from 10am until midday and 1pm to 3pm.  There will be a charge of £2 per day.  All children are welcome. Skills will be taught like juggling and plate spinning. Telephone 01226 717899 for more details.

 

Methodist Church

The Sunday service at 10.15am will be a local arrangement. The welcoming steward will be Edwin. John and Hilary will provide the flowers. Mrs. H. Bellamy will lead the evening service at 6pm. There will be a karate class on Monday at 7pm and on Thursday and Friday the majorettes will meet at 4.30pm.

  

Brierley Cubs FC

In the Sunday Millennium league the under 11s game at home to Ardsley Athletico was postponed due to the weather. This Sunday they will play away to the Dorothy Hymans with the kick of time to be arranged.

 

Spiritualist Church

Tonight at 6 there will be Healing in the Sanctuary followed at 7 with an Open circle. On Sunday there will be a demonstration of mediumship at 6pm that will be taken by Margaret Pearson from Bolton on Dearne. Other demonstrators for February are, Norrie Milnes from Rotherham and Rae Hurley from Wakefield. Refreshments will be served after each service.

 

Grange House

The social evenings have been cancelled due to poor weather but hope to return to normal tonight (Friday)

 

Three Horse Shoes

There is a quiz night at the Three Horse Shoes on a Thursday at 9.30pm and on Sunday at 8pm there is a music, conundrum and general knowledge quiz. On Thursday the Clever dicks won the quiz and the nearest too question while Dan and Gibby won a bottle of wine. Sunday saw Sharks table win the quiz and the conundrum while Shy talk came second in the quiz.

 

Village club

There is a quiz night every Monday starting at 9pm. The winner on Monday was Volvo Phil

 

Women’s Fellowship

The Women’s Fellowship meets at the Methodist Church on Mondays at 2pm. The speaker last week was Edwin.

 

Town Council

The next meeting will be in the Council Chambers Grimethorpe on Tuesday 24 February at 7pm.

Update: The meeting has been rescheduled to Wednesday 25 February same time and place

 

Brierley Buzzer

The transport project “Brierley Buzzer” will come into action towards the end of March. The bus has been bought and will service all of the estates in Brierley & Grimethorpe, linking in with the Stage Coach buses at the transport interchange in Grimethorpe as well as linking in with the bus timetable. The bus will make dedicated journeys to Barnsley Hospital, Barnsley Town Centre, Morrison’s and Tesco Superstore. 

 

Pie and peas supper

There will be a pie and pea supper in Grange House on Tuesday 24 February starting at 5pm. The event is being organised by the warden Lind Milburn and is in aid of the residents and friends outing fund. Tickets will include tea or coffee followed by a sweet.

 

Pop In

The next meeting of the Pop in club that is held at the Methodist church Hall will be on Thursday 26 February from 9.15am till 11am. Everyone is invited to pop in for tea, coffee, biscuits and a chat. Proceeds will be towards Church funds.

 

Boys Brigade

Both the Junior Boys and Company Section meetings will take place in the Methodist Church Hall on Wednesday. The 7 to 11 year olds meeting will take place from 6.30pm till 8pm and the older boys will meet from 7pm till 9. Edwin and Elizabeth Hambleton lead the boys.

 

Pool

In the Smithies Wednesday night pool league, the village club won 4-3 away to the Mount Osborne from Barnsley. Winning players for Brierley were Bernard Lucas, John Beasley, Darron Kearford and Bernard Johnson. Next week the team will play away to Honeywell.
