Brierley Cubs FC

The under 11s are seeking new players for their forthcoming season. For further details contact their manager Brian Haywood on 07799 41088.

 

Three Horse Shoes

There is a quiz night at the Three Horse Shoes on a Thursday at 9.30pm and on Sunday at 8pm there is a music, conundrum and general knowledge quiz. On Sunday Dave and Cath won the quiz while Andy came second. There was no conundrum or head to head this week. The head to head next week will be for £270. On Thursday The Dead Heads won the quiz while Brierley Two won the nearest too question. G Fab won the bottle of wine. Starting on Monday’s there will be a darts knockout competition commencing at 8pm. Tonight, Lydia Evans will provide the entertainment starting at 9pm. On Bank Holiday Monday, there will be entertainment provided throughout the day starting with Uncle Mark who will entertain the kids from 2pm. A barbeque will also take place and there will be fun and games for all ages.

 

Methodist Church

The Sunday morning service at 10.15am will be taken by Keith Lodge. The welcoming steward will be Edwin while Hilda will provide the flowers. There is a karate club on Monday at 7pm and the majorettes meet on Thursday and Friday at 4.30pm. There will be a bible study in the medical centre on Church Street on Thursday at 7pm. On the 30 August there will be a united Sacrament service at 10.30am taken by the Rev S Corney at Grimethorpe.

 

Grange House

At the Friday night social evening Joyce Howell won the raffle while Ann Broadhead claimed Monday’s prize. Doreen Smith won on Thursday. The next trip organised by the warden Linda Millburn is on the 14 October to Skipton, leaving Grange House at 11am and returning at approx 4pm calling at the Wetherby Whaler at Durker for a fish and chip supper returning to Grange House at approx 8pm. Spiritualist Church

There will be Healing in the church by approved healers tonight from 6 till 6.45pm followed at 7pm with an open circle. On Sunday at 6pm till 7.15 there will be a demonstration of mediumship taken by Sheila Chalkley from Royston. Refreshments will be served after each service. The demonstrator for next week will be Eddie Peace from Bradford. The church will be closed on Sunday 30 August for the bank holiday.

 

Pool

In the Smithies Wednesday night pool league the village club team played at home to the Wilthorpe Hotel and won 4-3. The winning players for Brierley were Bernard Lucas, Chas Oldham, Adrian Kenneth Sheard and Andrew Bryan. Next week they will play at home to the Polish club.

 

Multi sports

Brierley Town Council has arranged the following multi sports sessions in Brierley Park during August. All children are welcome to go along and enjoy themselves. The times will be 4pm till 6pm today, Tuesday and Wednesday.

 

Village club

There is a quiz night every Monday starting at 9pm. The winner last week was Chris Sykes.

 

Women’s Institute

The next meeting of the Women’s Institute will be held on 9 September in the Methodist church.

 

Boys Brigade

The boys Brigade have now broken up until September when both the Junior Boys and Company Section meetings will take place in the Methodist Church Hall on Wednesday. The 7 to 11 year olds meeting will take place from 6.30pm till 8pm and the older boys will meet from 7pm till 9. Edwin and Elizabeth Hambleton lead the boys.
