Women’s Fellowship

The women’s fellowship meets in the Methodist Church every Monday at 2pm. Last week the speaker was Mr Edwin Hambleton.

 

Methodist Church

On Thursday, members enjoyed a bible study at the home of Edwin and Elizabeth. There will be a Good Friday Service tonight at 7pm taken by Deacon J Thomas. On Saturday between 1 and 3pm, there will be an Easter egg hunt organised by Edward & Laura Hambleton. On Easter Sunday morning at 8am there will be a Sacrament service taken by the Rev D Hinchliffe followed at 9am by breakfast in the hall. The 10.15am service will once again be taken by the Rev D Hinchliffe. The welcoming steward will be Edwin who will present the flowers this weeks with Elizabeth.

                               

Boys Brigade

Both the Junior Boys and Company Section meetings will take place in the Methodist Church Hall on Wednesday. The 7 to 11 year olds meeting will take place from 6.30pm till 8pm and the older boys will meet from 7pm till 9. Edwin and Elizabeth Hambleton lead the boys.

 

Spiritualist Church

There will be no Healing in the sanctuary until further notice. Tonight at 6 there will be an Open circle from 6 till 7pm. On Sunday at 6pm there will be a demonstration of mediumship taken by Eddie Peace from Bradford. Refreshments will be served after each service. Demonstrators for the rest of April are Susan Ashton from Bradford and Pat Campbell from Sheffield. On 29 April at 7pm there will be a demonstration of mediumship special where visitors are asked to bring a photograph of a loved one. The demonstration will be performed by Maggie Carrington from Somerset and tickets are available from the church.

Village club

There is a quiz night every Monday starting at 9pm. The winner last week was Volvo Phil.

 

Three Horse Shoes

There is a quiz night at the Three Horse Shoes on a Thursday at 9.30pm and on Sunday at 8pm there is a music, conundrum and general knowledge quiz. On Thursday The Deadheads won the quiz and the nearest too question. The Famous five plus one won the bottle of wine. Sharks table won the quiz on Sunday while Les and mates came second. Debs won the conundrum. The Head to head was not won and will be for £50 next week.

 

Grange House

The winner of the social evening raffle on Monday was Pam Fewster. Joyce Howell won on Thursday while Mrs Swift claimed Friday’s prize. The trip to Bakewell in the Peak District has been re-arranged for Tuesday 2 June leaving Grange House at 11am, returning at 4pm and calling at the Wetherby Whaler in Durker for a fish and chip supper before leaving for home and arriving back at Grange House approx 8pm. This trip will be adults only. Spare tickets will be available priced at £6. For further details telephone Linda on 01226 711221.

 

Women’s Institute

The next meeting of the WI will be in May in the Methodist Church Hall. The ladies meet once a month but times and dates vary.

 

Pop In

The next meeting of the Pop in club that is held at the Methodist church Hall will be on Thursday 23 April from 9.15am till 11am. Everyone is invited to pop in for tea, coffee, biscuits and a chat. Proceeds will be towards Church funds.

 

Pool

In the Smithies Wednesday night pool league, the team played away to the Ashfield WMC and lost 6-1. Andy Westwood won for Brierley. The team will play away to Cudworth Victoria next week.
