Boys Brigade

At the Yorkshire County Battalion competitions, which were held at Starbeck, Harrogate last weekend, the junior Boys Brigade team of Cameron Lee, Kallam Sollitt, Connor Brennan and Connor Griffith won the General knowledge shield and also gained a 100% score to carry of the bible quiz championship. The same four boys along with Kyle Molics and Tyler Beckett also took part in the figure marching competition. Both the Junior Boys and Company Section meetings take place on Wednesday night in the Methodist Church Hall. The 7 to 11 year olds meeting will take place from 6.30pm till 8pm and the older boys will meet from 7pm till 9. Edwin and Elizabeth Hambleton lead the boys.

 

Children’s Centre

A new family support worker Kath Beecham has started at the Milefield Children’s centre that caters for children from nought to five. The centre welcomes children from the Brierley, Grimethorpe and Shafton areas. You can contact Kath on 01226 715127.

 

Methodist Church

Students from Capernwray will take the Sunday morning service at 10.15am. The evening service at 6pm will be at Cudworth. The welcoming steward for the morning service will be Pearl. John and Hilary will provide this weeks flowers.

 

Ladies Recreation

A ladies recreation evening takes place in the Methodist Church Hall every Tuesday night starting at 7.30. Last week the ladies enjoyed a Beetle drive.

 

Pop In

The next Pop in club at the Methodist Church Hall will be held next Thursday from 9.15 till 11.15. Everyone is invited to pop in for tea, coffee and biscuits and a chat. Proceeds are towards church funds.

 

THS Quiz

There is a quiz night at the Three Horse Shoes on a Thursday at 9.30pm and on Sunday at 8pm there is a music, conundrum and general knowledge quiz. The Head to head will be a rollover for £110 next week. On Thursday, Les Parry won the general knowledge quiz with 20 out of 20 correct. GFAB guessed the nearest too question and Mick Pointon won a bottle of wine.

 

Line Dancing

Line dancing will take place on Friday and on Monday in the Methodist Church Hall at 7pm.Entry is £2.50.

 

Women’s Fellowship

The Women’s Fellowship meeting takes place every Monday in the Methodist Church Hall at 2pm. Last week the ladies attended a rally at Cudworth and on Wednesday the Capernwray Students were guests.

 

Brierley Cubs FC

In the Millennium Sunday league, Brierley Cubs under 9s gave an excellent performance to beat Ward Green 2-1.  Brierley’s man of the match was Jack Mansell. Kyle Dolton scored for Brierley and Ward Green scored an own goal. They will play away next Sunday at Worsborough Common time to be arranged.

 

Spiritualist Church

There will be a healing in the sanctuary on Friday from 6 till 6.45pm followed at 7pm till 8 with an open circle. There will be a clairvoyance service at 6 till 7.15pm on Sunday. Refreshments will be served afterwards.

 

Grange House

Bingo and a raffle were enjoyed at the Grange House social evenings last Monday, Thursday and Friday.

 

Wood Carving

There are still places left for the wood carving course that takes place in Brierley on a Tuesday evening from 7 till 9pm. Contact John Nyland at the Grimethorpe Partnership on 01226 718283 for further details.

 

St Paul’s Church 

On Friday mass will be taken at 3pm. On Saturday there will be Stations of the Cross at 11am.The Sunday Mass with hymns will be at 9.30am. There will also be a mass on Monday at 10am and a Lenton study house group at 30 Bretton Close. Father Peter Needham will conduct the services. Marriage or Baptism enquires to be made to Father Peter at St Luke’s Church Grimethorpe on Friday between 6.30 and 7.15pm. On Saturday 31March there will be a Parish Conference at St Paul's led by Revd Michael Rawson, Chaplain to the Bishop of Wakefield starting at 10am till 1pm.
