Mr K Darbyshire

The death occurred recently of Mr Kenneth Darbyshire of Chestnut Avenue who died suddenly last Thursday in Pontefract General Hospital aged 76. Father Peter Needham will lead the funeral service at St Paul’s church on Monday at 1pm followed by internment at Brierley. Funeral arrangements by Newsome’s tel 01226 710528.

 

Blackpool trip

Linda Milburn the warden from Grange House has arranged a day trip to Blackpool for 14 August departing at 9am. There are four spare tickets priced at £11 each. Anyone interested can contact Linda on 01226 711221. No children.

 

Spiritualist Church

There will be healing in the sanctuary on Friday  from 6 till 6.45pm followed at 7pm till 8 with a clairvoyance service that will be taken by Pat Bancroft and Paul Richmond from Halifax. There will be a further clairvoyance service on Sunday at 6 till 7 taken by Sid and Joyce Pickersgill. Refreshments will be served afterwards.

 

Methodist Church

Mrs E Peet will take the 10.15am service on Sunday while the Rev T Keen will lead a Sacrament service at 6pm. The welcoming stewards will be Jean in the morning and Brian in the evening. Phyllis will provide this weeks flowers. A special Church Council Meeting is to be held after the evening service.

 

St Paul’s
There will be a mass on Friday at 3pm and on Sunday a mass with hymns at 9.30am. There will also be a mass on Monday at 10am. The Parish office for Baptism & Weddings are on Friday Evening at St Luke's Vicarage, Grimethorpe between 6.30pm and 7.15pm. Contact Father Peter Needham on 01226 717561

Three Horse Shoes
There is a quiz night at the Three Horse Shoes on a Thursday at 9.30pm and on Sunday at 8pm there is a music, conundrum and general knowledge quiz. On Thursday Pete Booth won the quiz with 16 out of 20 correct while Eric Wright won a bottle of wine. Les Parry guessed the nearest too question.

 

Line Dancing

Line dancing will take place every Monday and Friday in the Methodist Church Hall at 7pm. Entry is £2.50.

 

Boys Brigade

Both the Junior Boys and Company Section meetings take place on Wednesday night in the Methodist Church Hall. The 7 to 11 year olds meeting will take place from 6.30pm till 8pm and the older boys will meet from 7pm till 9. Edwin and Elizabeth Hambleton lead the boys.

 

Ladies Recreation

There will be a Ladies recreation evening in the Methodist Church hall on Tuesday at 7.30pm.

 

Grange House

At the Grange house social evenings last week, Ann Goose won the raffle on Thursday while Audrey Marsh won on Friday. Monday’s winner was Cath Evans.

 

Pop In

The next Pop in morning at the Methodist church will take place on Thursday 12 July from 9.15 am till 11.15. Everyone is invited to pop in for tea, coffee and biscuits and a chat. Proceeds towards the new building fund.

 

Women’s Fellowship

The Women’s Fellowship meeting takes place every Monday in the Methodist Church Hall at 2pm.  Last week the ladies enjoyed readings.
