Brierley Cubs FC

In the Millennium Sunday league, Brierley Cubs under 9s lost 2-1 in a hard fought game at home to Hoyland Town.  Brierley’s man of the match was Ryan Smith who was also their goal scorer. This Sunday they will play away to Mosborough. The under 7s match away to Treeton was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch. They will play at home on Sunday to Manton kicking of at 11am.

 

Grange House

Bingo and a raffle were enjoyed at the Grange House social evenings last Monday, Thursday and Friday. The winners of the raffle were Jean Ennis, Jock Hinks and Sue Noble.

 

Methodist Church

Mr W Marsden will lead the Sunday morning service at 10.15am while Mr I Watson will take the evening service at 6pm. The welcoming steward for the morning service will be Joan and in the evening it will be Ida who will also provide this weeks flowers. Ann Dobson will provide the flowers this week.

 

Labour Party

There will be a Brierley Ward Labour party meeting in Brierley Social club on Sunday at 10.30am. The Century club draw for February will take place and will be for £100. Subscriptions for 2007 are now due, please contact councillor Alex Vodden on 01226 711081

 

Boys Brigade

Next weekend, junior boys will take part in figure marching; bible quiz and general knowledge while the senior boys will take part in a bible quiz. Both these events are part of the Yorkshire County Battalion competitions and will take place at Starbeck, Harrogate. Both the Junior Boys and Company Section meetings will take place on Wednesday night in the Methodist Church Hall. The 7 to 11 year olds meeting will take place from 6.30pm till 8pm and the older boys will meet from 7pm till 9. Edwin and Elizabeth Hambleton lead the boys.

 

St Paul’s Church 

There will be a 3pm mass on Friday. The Sunday Mass with hymns will be at 9.30am. There will also be a mass on Monday at 10am. Father Peter Needham will conduct the services. During Lent, house group meetings will take place on a Monday evening between 7 and 8pm. The first will be this Monday at 30 Monument Drive Brierley. Marriage or Baptism enquires to be made to Father Peter Needham at St Luke’s Church Grimethorpe on Friday between 6.30 and 7.15pm.

Friends of St Paul’s

The next meeting will take place at St Paul’s next Wednesday at 8pm when the officers for the group chairman, treasurer and secretary, will be elected. Anyone who is interested in helping to secure the future of St Paul’s are asked to complete an application form and either take it to this meeting of the friends or you may take the form along or post it to the vicarage at High Street, Grimethorpe, Barnsley S72 7AJ. Copies of the form are obtainable from St Paul’s, the vicarage at Grimethorpe.

 

Pop In

The next Pop in club at the Methodist Church Hall will be held on Thursday 1 March from 9.15 till 11.15. Everyone is invited to pop in for tea, coffee and biscuits and a chat. Proceeds are towards church funds.

 

Line Dancing

Line dancing will take place tonight Friday and on Monday in the Methodist Church Hall at 7pm.Entry is £2.50

 

THS Quiz

There is a quiz night at the Three Horse Shoes on a Thursday at 9.30pm and on Sunday at 8pm there is a music, conundrum and general knowledge quiz. This Sunday Steve 1 won 6 pints for winning the general knowledge quiz while Steve 2 guessed the conundrum correctly. The Head to head was not won and will be a rollover for £100 next week.

 

Women’s Fellowship

The Women’s Fellowship meeting takes place every Monday in the Methodist Church Hall at 2pm.

 

Wood Carving

There are still places left for the wood carving course that takes place in Brierley on a Tuesday evening from 7 till 9pm. Contact John Nyland at the Grimethorpe Partnership on 01226 718283 for further details.

 

Spiritualist Church

There will be a healing in the sanctuary on Friday  from 6 till 6.45pm followed at 7pm till 8 with a service of mediumship. There will also be a medium engaged for the Sunday evening service at 6 till 7.15pm. Refreshments will be served afterwards.

 

Ladies Recreation

A ladies recreation evening takes place in the Methodist Church Hall every Tuesday night starting at 7.30.
