Coppins: There will be a Carol Service at the Coppins nursing home on Thursday at 6.30pm for residents, family and friends followed by mince pies and sherry. The residents will also enjoy a Christmas buffet on Christmas Eve.

Boys Brigade: Both the Junior Boys and Company Section enjoyed their Christmas Party last Wednesday. They will close for the holiday period and return on 10 January when they will train for a table tennis competition, which will take place in Scarborough in February. They will also train for a forthcoming bible and general knowledge quiz and marching/drill competition.

Christmas Fayre: Milefield Children’s centre, which caters for children from the Brierley, Grimethorpe and Shafton areas will hold its Christmas Fayre on the 19 December from 2pm till 4pm. Everyone is welcome.

Spiritualist Church: Everyone is invited to join Gail Davies for a clairvoyance, carol and candle service at the Spiritualist Church on Friday at 7pm. Ray Holcroft from Wetherby will take the Sunday evening service at 6pm till 7.15pm. Refreshments will be served afterwards. The next service will be on 5 January 2007. The committee would like to thank everyone who has supported the church over the past year and would like to wish everyone a loving and peaceful Christmas.

Methodist Church: There will be a carol service on Sunday morning at 10.15am, which will be led by Edwin Hambleton. The Rev B Lowery will take the evening service at 6. The welcoming steward this week will be Jean in the morning and Norma in the evening. The Cleaning Stewards will be Pam and Phyllis while Jean will provide the flowers.

Grange House: Winner of the social evening raffle on Monday was Joyce Howell while Rita Ford won on Thursday. There was no social event on Friday, instead the members and residents enjoyed a trip to Lincoln, which was organised by the warden Linda Milburn. On Tuesday the residents enjoyed their Christmas party. Bingo and a free raffle were provided and they all received a Christmas present.

THS Quiz: There is a general knowledge quiz at the Three Horse Shoes every Thursday at 9.30pm and a music quiz on Sunday starting at 8pm.

St Paul’s Church: An Advent Carol Service will take place at the Sunday Mass at 9.30am. Daily Mass will be taken on Monday at 10am and at 7pm there will be a Christmas quiz with cash prizes. Mass will also be taken on Friday at 3pm. Father Peter Needham will conduct the services. Marriage or Baptism enquires to be made to Father Peter Needham at St Luke’s Church Grimethorpe on Friday between 6.30 and 7.15pm.

Women’s Fellowship: The ladies meet every Monday at 2pm in the Methodist Church Hall. At last Monday’s meeting the ladies enjoyed carols and readings.

Ladies Recreation: There is a ladies recreation evening every Tuesday in the Methodist Church Hall at 7.30pm.
