 Its Ben Schofield working in France, I just thought I would log on and check out your mint website, from a internet cafe on a beach in Brittany.

Your website is fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!   Could you do me a favour and say hi to everyone like my mum and Neil, all the lads in club and the Fruntslide crew, I’ve been telling all the French about the band just now after we saw the picture, thanks for the wedding photos bud!!!!!!!!!! Tell everyone the weather is great and I will be back in the UK in November.

Once again your website is fab and its mint that I can email my village from 1000 miles from home

Regular events and meetings:

Brierley Historic Photographic Society

Meets on Monday and Wednesday 10am till 12 and Thursday night 7pm till 9pm when Jean Mann will be available to answer any Genealogy questions.

 

Garden and Allotment Society

Meet the first Wednesday in every month in the Three Horse Shoes at 9pm.

 

Brierley Labour Party

Meet the last Sunday in every month in Brierley Social club at 10am.

 

Brierley Village (Community) Partnership

Meet every second Tuesday in the month in their offices at Brierley Hall at 7pm.

 

Quiz Night

Every Thursday in the three Horse Shoes starting at 9pm.

 

Brierley Village club

Artistes Friday and Sunday. Bingo with cash prizes Tuesday and Thursday.

 

Hillside Tara

Coffee morning every Tuesday with bingo and raffle. 10.30am.

 

Boys Brigade

The boys Brigade Juniors will meet on Wednesday while the senior boys will meet on Thursday at 6.45pm.

 

Girls Brigade

Meet in the Methodist Church Hall on Monday at 7.15pm.

 

Football

Training will commence in Brierley Welfare Park for the Cubs and Tigers on Sunday September 22 at 10.15am. Dave Henstock will coach them. The club will hold their first annual presentation and social evening in Brierley Social club on Saturday September 21 from 6 till 9.15pm. There will be a running buffet and disco and everyone is welcome to attend.

 

Spiritualist

On Sunday at 7pm Veronica Sheares from Leeds will take a service of hymns, prayers and clairvoyance. Next Sunday Leigh Davies from Wakefield will take the service. To ease traffic congestion on Church Street visitors are asked to use the Brierley Hall car park.

 

Methodist Church

Mrs V Brook will take the Sunday morning family service at 10.15am and the evening service at 6pm will be taken by Miss M Jewitt. The cleaning stewards this week are Margaret Watson and Jean Rowley while Mr and Mrs B Ryalls will provide the flowers. There will be a ladies recreation evening on Tuesday at 7.30pm.

 

Social Club.

The Sunday night tote for £100 is still unclaimed. The winning numbers are 6 and 23. Tonight Friday the artist will be Mark James while Mick Ashton will provide the entertainment on Sunday. Monday is games night and bingo will be played Tuesday and Thursday.

 

Action Team for jobs

The team are available every Wednesday morning at 10am in the office of the History Society at the rear of Brierley Hall. Assistance will be given in job search and training.

Quiz

At the Three Horse Shoes quiz, which is held every Thursday night at 9pm, Gwen’s’ lot won the general knowledge section while Mandy Wright won the ‘nearest’ question.

 

Display/Concert

There will be a dried flower and candle display at the Methodist Church Hall on Tuesday 17 September at 7.30pm. Tickets are 50p and are available from Mrs Margaret Watson on 01226 712094. On Friday 27 September there will be a concert by the Barnsley Cooperative Band at 7.30pm and tickets can be obtained by telephoning Mrs Elizabeth Hambleton on 01226 713654. Both events are for the new building fund and everyone is welcome.

 

Harvest Festival

Brierley social Club will once again be the venue for the annual village Harvest Festival that are organised by Chris Sykes. The event is proving very popular and Chris always manages to come up with some wonderful gifts, the star buy last year being a signed Yorkshire CCC bat. Over the past 5 years with the help of local residents Chris has managed to raise over £5,000 for charity. This year it will be in aid of Multiple Sclerosis. Auctioning will begin at 8pm and if anyone wishes to donate any gifts for auction please telephone Chris on 01226 711255.

 

Girls Brigade

Janet Baxendale will lead the Girls Brigade in the Methodist Church Hall on Monday at 7.15pm. There will be a project team meeting in the vestry at 8pm.

 

 

Boys Brigade  

The Boys Brigade Juniors, Led by Mr. & Mrs. Edwin Hambleton will meet on a Wednesday while the Boys Brigade Seniors will meet on Thursday at 6.45pm and will be led by Mr. Edwin Hambleton & Mr. David Parkinson.

 

Grange House

Rita Sayers won Monday nights raffle at the Grange House social evening. Rita Ford won on Thursday while Jock Inks claimed Friday’s prize.

 

 

Women’s Fellowship

Mr K Bradley was guest speaker at the weekly meeting of the Brierley Women’s Fellowship on Wednesday. Margaret Watson was pianist. The ladies meet every week in the Methodist Church Hall at 2pm.

 

 

BHPS

The volunteers meet every Monday morning from 10am till 12. The winner of this weeks raffle for a bottle of Sherry was Caroline Rapson with winning number 139.

 

Hillside TARA

A coffee morning will be held at the Tara offices on Hillside on Tuesday morning from 10 while 12. Bingo and raffle will also be played. Betty Ogley was the winner of last weeks raffle.
