FRUNTSL/DE TO PLAY FOR LOCAL MP.

 The very popular teenage Brierley band FRUNTSL/DE have been booked by the local MP Jeff Ennis to play at his 50th birthday party, which is to be held in Grimethorpe on Saturday November 9th. Other gigs for the band in November include the Methodist Church Hall Brierley on November 8th and at the Pinfold Hotel Cudworth on November 15th

Regular events and meetings:

Brierley Historic Photographic Society

Meets on Monday and Friday 10am till 12 and Thursday night 7pm till 9pm when Jean Mann will be available to answer any Genealogy questions.

 

Garden and Allotment Society;

Meet the first Wednesday in every month in the Three Horse Shoes at 9pm.

 

Brierley Labour Party;

Meet the last Sunday in every month in Brierley Social club at 10am.

 

Brierley Village (Community) Partnership;

Meet every second Tuesday in the month in their offices at Brierley Hall at 7pm.

 

Quiz Night

Every Thursday in the three Horse Shoes starting at 9pm.

 

Brierley Village club.

Artistes Friday and Sunday. Bingo with cash prizes Tuesday and Thursday.

 

Hillside Tara

Coffee morning every Tuesday with bingo and raffle. 10am.

 

Boys Brigade

The boys Brigade Juniors will meet on Wednesday while the senior boys will meet on Thursday at 6.45pm.

 

Girls Brigade

Meet in the Methodist Church Hall on Monday at 7.15pm.

 

Audition night

Young hopefuls from around the region will show of their talents at an audition night, which will be held in Brierley Village club on Wednesday.

 

Football

There will be training for Brierley Lions and Cubs on Sunday morning at 10.15am in the welfare park. The team are looking for local teams to play friendly games. If anyone is interested please telephone the team coach Dave Henstock on 01226 713592. It is hoped that they will start training indoors at Willowgarth school on a Thursday night in the near future.

 

Grange House

Hilda Hall won Monday nights raffle at the Grange House social evening. Rita Ford won on Thursday while Mrs Swift claimed Friday’s prize.

           

Spiritualist

On Sunday at 6pm Ann Sharp from Pontefract will take a service of hymns, prayers and clairvoyance. The service next Sunday will be taken Craig Martin from Rotherham. To ease traffic congestion on Church Street visitors are asked to use the Brierley Hall car park.

 

Tabletop sale

The winning raffle numbers, which were drawn at the Methodist Church tabletop sale on Saturday, were Pink 530, and 372. Yellow 479, 497, 428,and 446. All the prizes were claimed and the lucky winners were, Pam Fewster, Elsie, Mrs Hobson, Pearl McQueen, Mrs Wright and Mrs Pickard. The event was organised by Mrs Margaret Watson and over £200 was raised for the new building fund.

 

Historic Photographic Society

Jean Mann from Grimethorpe holds an informal genealogy class on Thursday from 7pm till 9pm. Volunteers meet on Monday and Friday morning from 10am till noon.

 

Clairvoyance Special

There will be an evening of clairvoyance at the Spiritualist Church on Wednesday 6 November at 7pm. Morag Bence from Leeds will take the service and tickets which will be available from the church are priced at £2. Refreshments will be provided.

 

Social Club.

The winning numbers in the Sunday night tote for £100 were 25 and 26.The winner was Sandra Chaplain. Tonight Friday the artist will be Sue Carroll while Denni will provide the entertainment on Sunday. Bonus ball winner on Wednesday was Jock Hinks while Angela Gillespie won on Saturday. Wayne Sheard won Friday’s raffle. Albert Taylor won the gallon of beer. Next Monday is games night and bingo will be played Thursday.

 

Girls Brigade

At a recent social and dance evening the Brierley Girls Brigade managed to raise £30 for the Guide Dogs for the blind.

 

Concert

Members from the Hillside TARA are hoping to arrange an outing to see the popular Brierley band Fruntslide at the Pinfold Hotel on Friday 15 November. The coach will leave at 6.40pm and return at 9.40pm. The cost of the trip is £4 for adults and £3 for children, which will include tickets. To enable them to know what size coach to book, the closing date is November 5th and the trip must be paid for in full by the 10th November. The trip is open to all residents of the village and if anyone would like to book seats they can telephone Pat Goddard on 01226 713464.

 

Autumn Fayre

The Methodist Church annual autumn fayre will take place this year on Saturday 2 November and will be opened by Councillor Alex Vodden at 3pm.

 

Quiz

At the Three Horse Shoes quiz, which is held every Thursday night at 9pm, Mick Pointon won the general knowledge and a prize of £10. Steve of the Wage Warriors cashed in on his knowledge of the Ming Dynasty winning £5.50 for the nearest too question.

 

Boys Brigade                                                                                                                                

The Annual enrolment service will take place on Wednesday at 6.30pm. All boys will receive their membership cards and any badges or promotions they have earned. Parents and friends are invited. Company photographs will be taken afterwards and boys should arrive at 6.20pm in uniform if possible. There will be no meeting on 6 November.

 

Hillside TARA

There will be a coffee morning on Tuesday at 10am followed by the management committee meeting at 12.30pm. On Thursday 31 October at 6pm there will be a Halloween fancy dress night with a prize for both the best child and adult witch and warlock. Pie and peas and Hot dogs will be on sale and tickets are £1.

 

Women’s Fellowship

Readings were offered at the weekly meeting of the Brierley Women’s Fellowship on Wednesday. The ladies meet every week in the Methodist Church Hall at 2pm.

 

Ladies Recreation

There will be a ladies recreation evening in the Methodist Church Hall on Tuesday at 7.30pm.

 

Methodist Church

Mr G Senior will lead the Sunday service on at 10.15am while Miss K Megeary will take the evening service at 6pm. The cleaning steward’s this week are Mr and Mrs B Ryalls and Mr and Mrs R Baxendale will provide the flowers.

 

Pie and Peas

There will be a pie and pea supper for residents and friends of Grange House on Tuesday October 29 at 6.30pm till 9pm. Bingo. Games and a raffle will be held. All proceeds towards the residents Christmas fund.

 

Clean up

Volunteers are asked to attend the Methodist church on Tuesday at 9.30am to assist in general cleaning up of the Church grounds. Jobs will include hedge planting, fencing and the removal of a dangerous unused wall.

 

St Paul’s

Father John Baskerville will lead the Eucharist service on Sunday morning at 9am. Beverly Kenworthy will read the lesson.

 

Coppins

The bonus ball winner on Wednesday was Christine Hanwell. Julie Cross won on Saturday

 

Choir

The New Mill Male Voice Choir will give a concert at the Emmanuel Methodist Church on Saturday 9 November at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 and proceeds will go towards the Brierley Methodist Church new building fund.

 

Labour Party

There will be a Labour party meeting in Brierley Social club on Sunday morning at 10am. Last months New Centenary club winner for £50 was Joe Hayward.
