Regular events and meetings:

Garden and Allotment Society;

Meet the first Wednesday in every month in the Three Horse Shoes at 9pm.

Brierley Labour Party;

Meet the last Sunday in every month in Brierley Social club at 10am.

Brierley Village (Community) Partnership;

Meet every second Tuesday in the month in their offices at Brierley Hall at 7pm.

Quiz Night

Every Thursday in the three Horse Shoes starting at 9pm.

Brierley Village club.

Artistes Friday and Sunday. Bingo with cash prizes Tuesday and Thursday.

 

Mrs E J Burton

The death occurred recently of Mrs Edith Jackson Burton aged 78 of Church Street Brierley. The funeral service will take place at St Paul’s Church on Monday at 1.30 followed by cremation at Ardsley at 2.30. The Reverend John Baskerville will take the service.

 

Methodist Church

Mr Edwin Hambleton will take the Sunday morning family service at 10.15am and the evening service at 6pm will be taken by Mr B Woodfine. On Tuesday at 7.30pm there will be a ladies recreation evening.

 

Spiritualist

Sunday will be a service of hymns, prayers and clairvoyance and will be taken by Janet Hart and Kim Watkins from Brierley at 6pm. Next Friday at 6pm, there will be healing in the sanctuary by trained volunteers followed at 7pm by an open circle. Next Sunday Trevor Jones from Wakefield will take the service. To ease traffic congestion on Church Street visitors are asked to use the Brierley Hall car park.

 

Action Team for Jobs

The Action Team for Jobs will be available on Wednesday mornings at 10 till 12.15pm in the History Society rooms at the rear of Brierley Hall.

 

Garden Party

The Methodist Church will hold their Annual Garden Party today Saturday. Delia (nee Holling) and Tim Andrews will open the event at 3pm. Events will include stalls, games and refreshments. Everyone is welcome.

 

Girls Brigade

The Girls Brigade under the leadership of Janet Baxendale will meet in the Methodist Church Hall on Monday at 7.15pm.

 

Partnership

The Management Committee will hold a meeting in Brierley Hall on Tuesday night at 7pm.

 

Social Club.

Tommy Clarke won the £100 tote on Sunday night with winning numbers 13 and 28. Ernie Lacey won the mixed grill on Friday. The artiste tonight Friday, will be Kerry Anne. On Sunday Johnny Solo will provide the entertainment. The winners of the gallon of beer draw were Gordon Smith and Chaz. Monday is games night and Tuesday and Thursday is bingo. On Wednesdays 10 July there will be a Rock ‘N’ Roll night with the Moonshiners.

 

Grange House

Norah Harrison won the raffle at the social evening on Thursday and Friday night. Tony Evans won Monday’s prize.

Open Day

There will be an open day at the Spiritualist Church today from 11am till 4pm. Events will include, meditation, private readings, cake, handicraft and rock and crystal stalls, refreshments and lots more. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.

 

Skegness Trip

The Skegness trip that has been arranged by the Grange House Warden Linda Milburn will depart on Wednesday July 17 at 9.30am and will return at 6pm. The trip is sold out.

 

Women’s Fellowship

The guest speaker at last Wednesday’s Women’s Fellowship meeting was Mr R Lofthouse. Pianist was Mrs Margaret Watson.

 

Pop in Club

Everyone is invited for refreshments and a chat at the next ‘Pop in’ session which will be held at the Methodist Church Hall on Thursday July 18 between 9.15 and 11.15 am.

 

History Room

The Brierley Historical Photographic Society room which is situated at the rear of Brierley Hall will be open to anyone wishing to pop in for a chat or to assist in cataloguing the archives on Monday and Wednesday morning between 10am and 12 and Thursday nights between 7pm and 9 (Genealogy every 2nd week). If you have any old photographs or other artefacts you wish to donate to the society, or if you would like to make any enquires, please feel welcome to visit at these times.

 

Hillside Tara AGM

The Annual General Meeting of Hillside Tara took place in the estates offices recently and the following officials were elected; Chairman Hazel Devonport. Treasurer Pat Goddard. Secretary Audrey Marsh. Committee members; Karen Hurd, Tracy Lucas and Beatricia Ogley. The members expressed their thanks to the retiring Chairman/Secretary Sylvia Nixon for all her hard work on behalf of the Tara and also to Mick Rooke for auditing the books.

 

Coppins

This week’s bonus ball winner on Saturday was Brian Halliday while Hazel Kemp won on Wednesday.

 

 

THS Quiz

Barbara Moss was the winner of the quiz in the Three Horse Shoes on Thursday night after a tiebreak. She won £10. Alcoholics Anonymous won the nearest to question. The event is held every week and starts at 9pm.

 

St Paul’s Church

Beverly Kenworthy will read this week’s lesson at the Eucharist service on Sunday at 9am. Father John Baskerville will take the service. The Strawberry tea will be held at Felkirk St Peter’s on Saturday at 2pm till 4. South Hiendley Brass Band will provide the entertainment.

 

Primary School

Pupils from classes 5 and 6 will visit Giggleswick on a residential trip from Monday till Friday next week. The pupils will do walking and Geography etc.

 

Darts

John Clarke made a clean sweep by winning all three-dart knockouts at Brierley Social club on Sunday.
