BOWER SCHOFIELD

The wedding of Mr Neil Bower to Rose Schofield took place at Brierley Methodist Church last Saturday.

Her son Ben gave the bride away and her daughter Charlotte was a bridesmaid.

A reception was held at the Ardsley Lodge Hotel

Regular events and meetings:

Brierley Historic Photographic Society

Meets on Monday and Wednesday 10am till 12 and Thursday night 7pm till 9pm when Jean Mann will be available to answer any Genealogy questions.

 

Garden and Allotment Society

Meet the first Wednesday in every month in the Three Horse Shoes at 9pm.

 

Brierley Labour Party

Meet the last Sunday in every month in Brierley Social club at 10am.

 

Brierley Village (Community) Partnership

Meet every second Tuesday in the month in their offices at Brierley Hall at 7pm.

 

Quiz Night

Every Thursday in the three Horse Shoes starting at 9pm.

 

Brierley Village club

Artistes Friday and Sunday. Bingo with cash prizes Tuesday and Thursday.

 

Hillside Tara

Coffee morning every Tuesday with bingo and raffle. 10.30am.

 

Boys Brigade

The boys Brigade Juniors will meet on Wednesday while the senior boys will meet on Thursday at 6.45pm.

 

Girls Brigade

Meet in the Methodist Church Hall on Monday at 7.15pm.

 

Coffee Morning

A coffee morning will be held at the Tara offices on Hillside on Tuesday morning from 10 while 12. Bingo and raffle will also be played.  The winner of this weeks raffle was Hazel Devonport

 

Spiritualist

Sunday will be a service of hymns, prayers and clairvoyance and will be taken by Violet Bainbridge from South Elmsall. Next Sunday Paula Baisby from Doncaster will take the service. To ease traffic congestion on Church Street visitors are asked to use the Brierley Hall car park.

 

Quiz

Jeff and Judith won the Thursday night general knowledge quiz, which is held at the Three Horse Shoes every Thursday night at 9pm. Graham Vodden won the Kitty question and Judith won the picture quiz.

 

St Paul’s Church

Father John Baskerville will take the Eucharist service this Sunday at 9am. Hilary Cooke will read the lesson

Parade

Three children are still wanted to dress up in period costume to parade through Brierley Village with the History society on Sunday 25 August from noon till 4pm selling Danny Oat’s ice cream for 1p. Costumes will be paid for through the Brierley Historic Photographic Society. Any families wanting to join in are quite welcome. Anne Palmer will provide the costumes at half price. If anyone is interested, please telephone Gary on 01226 716957 before Tuesday evening or call in at the history society’s room at the rear of Brierley Hall between 10am and 12 on Monday

 

Clairvoyance evening

An evening of clairvoyance will take place at Brierley Spiritualist Church tonight Saturday at 7pm till 9.30. The event is in aid of the PDSA (Sick animals) Tickets are £3 each and are available from the church or the PDSA shop in Barnsley. Free refreshments will be available during a twenty-minute break. Diana Burkes from Wath and Yvonne Mcdoneld (spelt correctly) will take the service

 

Coppins

Residents and staff from the Coppins will enjoy a day trip to Bridlington on Tuesday departing at 10am. The bonus ball winner on Saturday was Doctor Amos while Ida Wilson won on Wednesday

 

Action Team for Jobs

The Action Team for Jobs will be available on Wednesday morning in the History Society rooms at the rear of Brierley Hall from10 till 12.00pm. The team are available to assist with job searches, offering advice on training and there are also various grants available for help in getting back into work

 

Summer club

There will be a ladies summer club at the Methodist Church Hall on Tuesday at 7pm

 

Social Club.

The winning numbers for the Sunday night tote for £100 were 11 and 15, which was won by Ralph Chaplain. The winner of the mixed grill on Friday was Neil and Ross the newlyweds. The artiste tonight Friday, will be Carrie Michaels while Rickie Lane will be back on Sunday by popular demand The bonus ball winners were Chris Sykes on Saturday and Spider on Wednesday. There will be a Karaoke night on Tuesday and Thursday will be bingo. Monday is games night

 

Grange House

Rita Ford won Monday nights raffle at the Grange House social evening. Doreen Smith won on Thursday while Sue Noble claimed Friday’s prize.

 

Methodist Church

Brierley Young People will take the Sunday morning family service at 10.15am and the evening service at 6pm will be taken by Miss E Haigh
