DOUBLE WEDDING CELEBRATION

The double wedding took place last Saturday at Barnsley Register office of mother and daughter, Joyce and Melissa Clarke from the Hillside estate. Joyce who is a customer service advisor married Paul Tinker who works as a window fabricator for Welcome Windows, while Melissa who works in the Home Farm bakery store at nearby Grimethorpe tied the knot with Kristian Howell who works at Morrisons. Both couples enjoyed a reception at Grimethorpe WMC. They will fly of to Moraira in Spain for their honeymoon.

Brierley Historic Photographic Society

Meets on Monday and Wednesday 10am till 12 and Thursday night 7pm till 9pm when Jean Mann will be available to answer any Genealogy questions.

 

Garden and Allotment Society

Meet the first Wednesday in every month in the Three Horse Shoes at 9pm.

 

Brierley Labour Party

Meet the last Sunday in every month in Brierley Social club at 10am.

 

Brierley Village (Community) Partnership;

Meet every second Tuesday in the month in their offices at Brierley Hall at 7pm.

 

Quiz Night

Every Thursday in the three Horse Shoes starting at 9pm.

 

Brierley Village club.

Artistes Friday and Sunday. Bingo with cash prizes Tuesday and Thursday.

 

Hillside Tara

Coffee morning every Tuesday with bingo and raffle. 10.30am.

 

Boys Brigade

The boys Brigade Juniors will meet on Wednesday while the senior boys will meet on Thursday at 6.45pm.

 

Girls Brigade

Meet in the Methodist Church Hall on Monday at 7.15pm.

 

St Paul’s Church

Father John Baskerville will lead the Eucharist service this Sunday at 9am. Jean Johnson will read the lesson.

 

Methodist Church

The Women’s Fellowship will take the Sunday morning family service at 10.15am and the evening service at 6pm will be taken by Mrs E Peet.

 

Summer club                                                               

The ladies from the Methodist Church will hold a summer club on Tuesday at 7pm.

 

Social Club

The winning numbers for the Sunday night tote for £100 were 3 and 29, which was claimed. The winner of the mixed grill on Friday was Albert Taylor. The artiste tonight Friday, will be Sonya while Paul Harper will provide the entertainment on Sunday. The bonus ball winners were Les Burkes on Saturday and Colin Peace on Wednesday. Bingo is played on Tuesday and Thursday while Monday is games night.

 

Clairvoyance evening

An evening of clairvoyance will take place at Brierley Spiritualist Church on Saturday August 17 at 7pm till 9.30. The event is in aid of the PDSA (Sick animals) Tickets are £3 each and are available from the church or the PDSA shop in Barnsley. Free refreshments will be available during a twenty-minute break. Diana Burkes from Wath and Yvonne McDonald will take the service.

 

Action Team for Jobs

The Action Team for Jobs will be available on Wednesday morning in the History Society rooms at the rear of Brierley Hall from10 till 12.00pm. The team are available to assist with job searches, offering advice on training and there are also various grants available for help in getting back into work.

 

Rock ‘N’ Roll

Brierley Village club will play host to a 60s rock ‘n ‘ roll night on Wednesday when top band The Moonshiners will provide the entertainment. Admission is free.

 

Spiritualist

Tonight Friday at 6pm, there will be healing in the sanctuary by trained volunteers followed at 7pm by an open circle. Sunday will be a service of hymns, prayers and clairvoyance and will be taken by Jackie Jennings from South Kirby. Next Sunday Violet Bainbridge from South Elmsall will take the service. To ease traffic congestion on Church Street visitors are asked to use the Brierley Hall car park.

 

Presentation

Following the Sunday morning service at the Methodist Church, the members held a farewell dinner and presentation to the ministers, The Rev Gill and Leslie Newton. The couple are leaving to take up the post of Superintendent Ministers for the Barnsley Circuit.

 

Summer club

There will be a ladies summer club in the church hall on Tuesday at 7pm.

 

Coffee Morning

A coffee morning will be held at the Tara offices on Hillside on Tuesday morning from 10 while 12. Bingo and raffle will also be played. 

 

Grange House

Rita Ford won Monday nights raffle at the Grange House social evening. Audrey Marsh won on Thursday while Joyce Howell claimed Friday’s prize.

 

Coppins

Residents and staff from the Coppins will enjoy a day trip to Bridlington on Tuesday 20 August departing at 10am.

 

Quiz

Two tired ladies won the Thursday night quiz, which is held at the Three Horse Shoes every Thursday night at 9pm. Graham Vodden won the nearest too question.
