St Paul’s

Father John Baskerville will lead the Eucharist service on Sunday morning at 9am. Jean Johnson will read the lesson.

 

Coppins

The bonus ball winner on Wednesday and Saturday was Christine Hanwell.

 

Choir

The New Mill Male Voice Choir will give a concert at the Emmanuel Methodist Church on Saturday 9 November at 7.30pm. Entrance is £5 pay on the door and proceeds will go towards the Brierley Methodist Church new building fund. Mrs Elizabeth Hambleton will be musical director.

 

Labour Party social evening

The Brierley Ward Labour party held its annual social evening in Brierley club on Saturday. Rock and roll band ‘The Moonshiners provided the entertainment

 

Boys Brigade

The senior members of the Brierley Boys Brigade will meet on Thursday at 6.45pm and will be led by Mr Edwin Hambleton and David Parkinson. The junior section will meet on Wednesday at 6.30pm with Mr and Mrs Edwin Hambleton.

 

Remembrance Day

After a 10.15am service at the Methodist church on November 10, members from the Boys Brigade will lead a march to the Cenotaph where Mr Edwin Hambleton will lead a further service followed by the laying of the wreaths.

 

Women’s Fellowship

There was a guest speaker at the weekly meeting of the Brierley Women’s Fellowship on Wednesday. Margaret Watson was pianist. The ladies meet every week in the Methodist Church Hall at 2pm.

 

Grange House

Doreen Smith won Monday nights raffle at the Grange House social evening. Jean Ennis won on Thursday while Rita Sayers claimed Friday’s prize.

           

Spiritualist

The service next Sunday will be taken by Gail Davies from Normanton. To ease traffic congestion on Church Street visitors are asked to use the Brierley Hall car park.

 

Historic Photographic Society

The society will close for holidays on Tuesday and reopen on Thursday 14 November when Jean Mann will take a genealogy class at 7pm. The management committee will hold a meeting in Brierley Hall on Wednesday at 4pm when the society’s new funding officer Dot Tangen will be introduced to the members. The winner of this week’s members raffle was Margaret Wright.

 

Concert

Members of the Hillside TARA are hoping to arrange an outing to see the Brierley band Fruntslide at the Pinfold Hotel Cudworth on Friday 15 November. The coach will leave at 6.40pm and return at 9.40pm. The cost of the trip, which will include tickets, is £4 for adults and £3 for children. To enable them to know what size coach to book, the closing date is on Wednesday and the trip must be paid for in full by the 10th November. The trip is open to all residents of the village and if anyone would like to book seats they can telephone Pat Goddard on 01226 713464.

 

Autumn Fayre

The Methodist Church annual autumn fayre will take place tomorrow Saturday and will be opened by Councillor Alex Vodden at 3pm.

 

Clean up

There was an excellent turnout on Tuesday at the Methodist church when volunteers cleaned up the grounds. Richard Baxendale extends his grateful thanks to everyone.

Mr R Baxendale led last Sunday’s morning service while Mr E Hambleton will took the evening service at 6pm.

 

Pop in Club

The next ‘pop in club’, which is held in the Methodist church hall, will be on Thursday at 9.15 till 11.15am. Everyone is welcome to pop in for refreshments and a chat.

 

Quiz

At the Three Horse Shoes quiz, which is held every Thursday night at 9pm, Mick Pointon won the general knowledge and a prize of £10. Mark the hat won the kitty,

 

Hillside TARA

The winners of this weeks raffle were Audrey Marsh and Margaret Wright.

 

Clairvoyance Special

There will be an evening of clairvoyance at the Spiritualist Church on Wednesday at 7pm. Morag Bence from Leeds will take the service and tickets which will be available from the church are priced at £2. Refreshments will be provided.

 

Social Club

The winning numbers in the Sunday night tote for £100 were 2 and 7.The winner was Steve Bowen. Tonight Friday the artist will be Nicky Lomas while David Knight will provide the entertainment on Sunday. Bonus ball winner on Wednesday and Saturday was Christina. Connie and Kenny Clarke won the gallon of beer draw. Next Monday is games night and bingo will be played Thursday.

Ladies Recreation

There will be a ladies recreation evening in the Methodist Church Hall on Tuesday at 7.30pm.

 

Star Show

Four top line artistes will appear at the Village club tonight Wednesday in a Star Show concert. Tickets are 50p

 

Football

There will be no training for Brierley Lions and Cubs this week. It is hoped that they will start training indoors at Willowgarth School on a Thursday November 7 at 7 till 8pm. Please telephone the team coach to confirm. The team are looking for local teams to play friendly games. If anyone is interested please telephone Dave Henstock on 01226 713592.

Meets on Monday and Friday 10am till 12 and Thursday night 7pm till 9pm when Jean Mann will be available to answer any Genealogy questions.

 

Garden and Allotment Society;

Meet the first Wednesday in every month in the Three Horse Shoes at 9pm.

 

Brierley Labour Party;

Meet the last Sunday in every month in Brierley Social club at 10am.

 

Brierley Village (Community) Partnership;

Meet every second Tuesday in the month in their offices at Brierley Hall at 7pm.

 

Quiz Night

Every Thursday in the three Horse Shoes starting at 9pm.

 

Brierley Village club

Artistes Friday and Sunday. Bingo with cash prizes Tuesday and Thursday.

 

Hillside Tara

Coffee morning every Tuesday with bingo and raffle. 10am.

 

Boys Brigade

The boys Brigade Juniors will meet on Wednesday while the senior boys will meet on Thursday at 6.45pm.
