Weigh In

At the weekly meeting of the weight watchers held in Brierley Methodist Church, the total weight lost for last week was 86 pounds. The group meets on a regular basis at 6.30pm every Monday and anyone over the age of 16 is welcome to join

 

Concert/Auction

Brierley Social club will be the venue for a charity auction and concert on Monday night in aid of the Church Drive Surgery ECG heart monitoring machine appeal fund. Jason Fraser, a very popular local entertainer has offered his services free. The events will start at 8pm with the magnificent five, Chloe Green, Romy Poole, Christy Riggot, Vicky Pearson and Lyndsey McGrath presenting a cheque for £200 to Mrs Wendy Rushe who will accept the cheque on behalf of the appeal organisers. The girls raised the money through various fund raising events last year including a number of car boot sales. Gifts donated by shops and individuals in Brierley, Grimethorpe and Cudworth will also be auctioned. The local primary school, Grange House and St Paul's church have all collected food parcels towards the appeal. The appeal fund was also boosted this week with further donations of £123 from anonymous donors

 

Clairvoyance

There are a few remaining tickets for the evening of Clairvoyance which will be held at the Spiritualist Church on Wednesday at 7pm. Well known Hemsworth medium Betty Elliot will be joined by Ann Westwood and Diane Gardner. The proceeds will be for the Church Drive Surgery ECG heart monitoring machine appeal. Tickets which are £2.50 and includes refreshments, are available from the Church, or by telephoning Barbara Thompson on 01226 234894

 

Audition night

Tony Lord will lead the entertainment at an audition night which will be held in Brierley Social club on Wednesday night. Three new acts will appear

 

Area Forum

At the Area Forum meeting held at Monk Bretton this week, the officers decided to grant the Brierley ECG appeal £340 from the Community Support Fund

 

Boys Brigade

The Boys Brigade Juniors meet in the Methodist Church on Wednesday at 6.30pm and are led by Mr and Mrs Hambleton, while on Thursday, the Seniors meet at 6.45pm where Mr David Parkinson will join Mr Hambleton in leading the boys

 

Pool

In the Tuesday night Sam Smith's pool league, Brierley Social club lost 5 - 2 away to the Pinfold. Albert Taylor won his individual match, while Kevin Elvidge and John Clarke won the doubles

 

Methodist Church

Mrs L Barker will conduct the Sunday morning service at 10.15am at the Methodist Church while the Rev.'s Gill and Leslie Newton will take the evening service at 6pm. Mr and Mrs E Burton presented this week's flowers. The ladies from the Church held a recreation evening on Tuesday

 

Social Club

At Friday night's social evening held in the Social club, Paul Rounds won a mixed grill while Colin Earl won four free pints. Paul Myers also won a prize. Graham Vodden won the quiz but did not manage to answer the killer question correctly. It will be played for again on Friday for £10. The Sunday night tote numbers were 3 and 22, Kenny Clarke was the winner of the £80 prize. Sunday afternoon Prize-winners in the club were Muriel Clarke and Paul Rounds. The artiste for this Sunday night will be Wesley

 

Spiritualist Church

There will be healing in the sanctuary on Friday at 6pm followed by an open circle at 7pm. Vanessa Digram from Fitzwilliam will take the Sunday evening service at 6pm

 

Grange House

At the social evenings held in Grange House on Monday and Thursday, Dot White won the raffle prize on both occasions. Sandra Swift was the winner on Friday. On Tuesday night the residents enjoyed a pie and pea supper

 

Fellowship

The ladies from the Methodist Church will hold a fellowship meeting at the Church at 2pm today (Wednesday). Mrs R Smith will be speaker and Margaret Watson will be pianist

 

Ladies Section

At a meeting held in Brierley Social club on Saturday, the ladies section committee decided to disband until it is confirmed that they will receive the support of the new manager who is expected to take over at the club in April

 

St Paul's

A Eucharist service to celebrate the conversion of St Paul, will be held at St Paul's church tomorrow (Thursday) at 9.30am
