Gardens tidied

Pensioners and the disabled from Brierley and Grimethorpe will get their gardens tidied up in a scheme organised by Brierley Town Council. Rebecca Pritchard, Clerk to the Council as asked for everyone to be patient has she has been inundated with telephone calls about the scheme since it was reported in the Barnsley Chronicle last week.

 

Methodist Church

Forthcoming events at the Methodist Church include an Autumn Fayre on Saturday 4 November at 3 pm which will include cake stalls, teas etc., the following Saturday November 11 there will be a jumble sale starting at 1-30 pm entrance to both is free and everybody is welcome. This Sundays speakers are Morning, Miss Haigh, evening, Cliff College Students. Last weeks offertory was £120-99p. Mr and Mrs C Beale will donate this weeks flower.

 

St Paul's Church Harvest Draw

The winning numbers in St Paul's Church Harvest draw were, 1st prize £50 number 7400, 2nd prize £25 number 1987. Sunday services are held at 9-00 am, baptisms and marriages by arrangement with the vicar telephone 715315.

 

Grange House

Winners of the raffles at Grange House social evenings were, Monday Mrs Audin, Thursday Mrs Parker and Friday Mrs Foster. The ladies meet three times a week in Grange House at 7 pm for bingo, tea and biscuits and everyone is welcome.

 

Brierley Boys Brigade

The Brierley Boys Brigade held its annual presentation service recently and awards went to, Junior Section (7 to 11 years) top boy shared by Paul Fry and James Addy. Promotions to Company sections (11 -15 years) Paul Fry and Sean Kershaw. Rank promotions Company Sections ( 11 - 15 years) LC David Baxendale and Robert Greenwell, LC to C Thomas Cherryholme. Top boy Cpy section David Baxendale. All the other boys received membership cards, service awards (year badge), badges and awards for work/service done in the company.

Well Done Bernie!

A framed portrait of old Brierley is on its way to Bernard Lucas from Hillside Mount, Bernard is the winner of the free to enter quiz which he entered at last months exhibition of old Photographs at Brierley Methodist Church. He chose the just for fun Three Horse Shoes portrait with the original photograph being dated 1901.

 

Houses of Parliament Trip

Brierley Labour Party are organising a trip to the Houses of Parliament on Wednesday 15 November to meet the local M P Jeff Ennis. The trip will also include a tour of the House and is open to anyone by contacting Councillor Alex Vodden on 01226 711081.

 

Brierley Village Partnership

At a meeting held at Brierley Hall recently by the acting officers and other members of the newly formed Brierley Village Partnership, a draft constitution was drawn up with assistance from officers of Barnsley Council. The acting officers will also meet shortly with the officials from the Grimethorpe Partnership to confirm Brierley's withdrawal from that organisation, they will also attend a seminar on funding which has been organised by Jeff Ennis MP.

 

Planning Permission

Planning permission to build an attached garage at 4 Ashleigh Brierley, has been received by Barnsley Council planning department.

 

Refurbishment on Hold

The £50,000 refurbishment on the Three Horse Shoes has been put on hold until at least the new year. Matthew Evans the Business development officer for the owners The Unique Pub Company has stated that the proposed tenant has pulled out of the deal and a replacement is being sought.

 

Brierley Social Club.

A group of twelve male members from Brierley Social Club will set off on a three day trip to Belgium on Friday organised by the club Manager Joe Minnock. Joe has also arranged an outing to Sam Smiths Brewery at Tadcaster on 24 October. The trip will include a tour of the brewery plus a free buffet afterwards. The invitation is open to any members of the club. Winning numbers in the Sunday night tote draw were 17 and 22, the winning ticket has been sold. The winner of the Friday night quiz was Chris Sykes. The ladies section are holding a Halloween disco on Saturday 28 October from 1 till 4pm for children under sixteen. It will include a fancy dress competition for best witch and warlock. Entrance is free to members children and 50p to non members. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
