Pool

Brierley Social club played at home to Cudworth Social club on Tuesday night and won 4-3.The winning players for Brierley being Jason Iveson, John Clarke and Jeff Watson, Kevin Elvidge and Kenny Clarke winning the pairs. The Three Horse Shoes pool team lost 5-1 away to the Masons at Worsborough in the Monday night league.

 

House Group

A house group meeting was held at the home of Colin and Hilda Beale, Frickley Bridge Lane on Monday.

 

Girls Brigade

The girls Brigade meet every Monday in the Methodist Church at 7.15 and are led by Janet Baxendale.

 

Brierley Village partnership

The acting officers of Brierley Village partnership will meet with the officers from the Grimethorpe partnership next week in Brierley Hall to confirm Brierley's withdrawal from that partnership. Residents of Brierley met in September and voted unanimously to form their own Partnership within the village.

 

Friends of Kenya

At the raffle and coffee evening held recently in Grange House, Doreen and Peter Britton from Church Street and other 'Friends of Kenya' raised £280.

 

Coppins

The manager at the Coppins residential home, Pat Homer will escort six residents to Brierley Social Club next Wednesday for a social evening. On Tuesday the residents enjoyed an evening Christmas shopping. There will be a Christmas Fayre at the home on 13 December.

 

Baipip

Brierley and its people in photographs will hold an exhibition of photographs of Brierley ranging from 1901 to 2000 in the social club on Wednesday 13 December from 12 till 10 pm, entrance is free. Transport will be available in the afternoon for any elderly or disabled person in the village wishing to attend the event, contact Gary for arrangements. The last exhibition held in the Methodist Church in October attracted nearly 300 visitors, some from as far away as Cumbria. Baipip recently donated old photographs of the village to the primary school to assist the teachers in their history lessons

Book released.

The Island of the Good', a book written by local preacher and writer Elizabeth Deighton is now available from Brierley Post Office or the Methodist Chapel.

 

Brierley Social Club

Artiste at the Brierley social club this Sunday will be Mark Graham. Stu's 60/80s disco will entertain on Friday night. Sunday night tote numbers for £80 were 6 and 10, it was won by Karen Hurd. The Friday night quiz winners were Kenny Clarke and Graham Stagg. Leslie Stagg won the conundrum. Next Wednesday night, auditions will be held in the club for all budding performers, the special guest artiste for the evening will be Kay Lewis

 

Methodist Church

The Rev Gill Newton will conduct the service at the Methodist Church on Sunday morning at 10.15am, the Rev D Orange will take the evening service at 6pm. This weeks flowers will be donated by Mr and Mrs C Beale.

 

Women's Fellowship

Speaker at today's (Wednesday) Fellowship meeting will be the Rev D A Morris. The pianist will be Margaret Watson.

 

Ladies Recreation

Brierley Methodist Church held a ladies recreation evening on Tuesday.

 

Grange House

Lucky raffle winners at this weeks social evenings were, Monday night Kath Hardwick, Thursday Doris Pugh and Friday Eva Swift. Grimethorpe and District Brass Band will entertain the residents at this years Christmas party that will be held on Tuesday 5 December.

 

Brierley School

Last Monday, Miss Charlotte Allen, a teacher at the Primary school, welcomed John Steele, a former pupil at the school in the 1930s. John talked to her class of seven-year-olds about his time as a pupil at the school. Miss Allen is teaching the children the history of the old school, and next Monday she will be assisted by Mrs Hilda Beale, who was a teacher at the school in 1960. Governor in school next Friday will be Councillor Alex Vodden from 10am till 10.30am.
